Abstract

A case of infective endocarditis of the aortic valve with severe acute aortic insufficiency is presented. Doppler echocardiography on admission revealed the presence ofdiastolic mitral regurgitation, which is considered to be the Doppler sign of acute aortic insufficiency. At subsequent studies 1 and 2 months later, diastolic mitral regurgitation was still present. This finding demonstrates that the pathophysiology of acute aortic insufficiency can persist over 2 months. Copyright © 1992, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
