The effects of fornical and septal splitting on the duration of individual paradoxical sleep (PS) episodes, PS frequency and total PS time per recording session were studied in 28 cats, after a recovery period of 6 mth. The splitting was effective in preventing the appearance of the theta rhythm during PS, however, no alterations in the PS parameters were found.
