Thrombocyte aggregation was investigated in 15 diabetic patients with clinically pronounced vascular complications and with hyperlipoproteinemia type IV. By means of an aggregometer (type 'Mustard') the maximum amplitude of the decreased optical density and the degree of speed of the decreased optical density in a given unit of time were determined after adding 2 micrograms of ADP to the thrombocyte rich plasma. In comparison with 13 healthy subjects from the control group, a statistically significant higher maximum amplitude of the decreased optical density and a greater degree of the speed of the decreased optical density were noted among diabetics. Considering these facts, the authors suggest a possible influence of hyperlipoproteinemia upon the increased thrombocyte aggregation in diabetics with vascular complications.
