Publication Correlation of atherogenic risk factors with retinal artery occlusion in adults; [Korelacija aterogenih faktora rizika s okluzijom retinalne arterije kod odraslih](2014) ;Risimić, Dijana (12773128400) ;Nikolić, Dejan (26023650800) ;Simeunović, Dejan (14630934500) ;Jakšić, Vesna (23667666000) ;Cekić, Sonja (36070315900)Milenković, Svetislav (55499350000)Aim To evaluate correlation of atherogenic risk factors between patients with retinal artery occlusion (RAO) and matched population, including those with central RAO and branch RAO. Methods Seventy-two participants from 2 groups were evaluated: a group with diagnosed RAO (first group; 45 participants) and a matched control group including those without RAO or any other ophthalmological disease (second group; 27 participants). From those with diagnosed RAO patients with central RAO and patients with branch RAO were evaluated separately. Additional parameters that were observed included body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, fasting glucose levels, triglycerides, LDL and HDL cholesterol fractions levels, presence of metabolic syndrome and hyperlipoproteinemia. Results There was a significant increase of LDL mean values in the group of patients with RAO. Hypertension (88.9%), hyperlipoproteinemia (68.9%) and metabolic syndrome (53.3%) were significantly more frequent in patients with RAO, while gender and diabetes mellitus were not in direct correlation with the development of RAO. The group of patients with RAO had no significantly higher values of BMI compared to the control. High density lipoprotein fraction was significantly higher in the group of patients with central RAO as compared with those with branch RAO. Conclusion Patients with atherogenic risk factors are more prone to the development of RAO. Furthermore, we demonstrated that HDL had more protective effects on smaller blood vessels (branch retinal artery) than on larger blood vessels (central retinal artery). - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Dry eye examination – benefits of Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire with clinical testing(2022) ;Kalezić, Tanja (55648169500) ;Vuković, Ivana (56274397500) ;Pejin, Vedrana (57215507705) ;Stanojlović, Svetlana (23502220700) ;Karamarković, Nemanja (57214882174) ;Risimić, Dijana (12773128400) ;Božić, Marija (26640219200)Radosavljević, Aleksandra (56993158000)Introduction/Objective Dry eye is a multifactorial disease with incidence up to 50% in the general population. It is characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film and accompanied by ocular symptoms. Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire is designed to provide a rapid assessment of the symptoms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic capacity of OSDI. Methods A prospective, randomized and observational study was conducted at the Clinic for Eye Disease, University Clinical Center of Serbia, between December 2018 and February 2019. The OSDI questionnaire was used to rate the severity of dry eye disease. Schirmer I test, tear break-up time test (TBUT), Rose Bengal test and lid-parallel conjunctival folds (LIPCOF) test were performed as a clinical proof of the symptoms. Results A total of 27 patients, 15 male (55.4%) and 12 female (44.6%), with mean age of 60 ± 15 years were included in the study. The average value of OSDI score was 26.37 ± 23.98 (0–80). Schirmer I test and Rose Bengal test for the right and the left eye, as well as the TBUT test for the left eye were positively correlated with OSDI score (Spearman correlation coefficient). Conclusion OSDI questionnaire is a fast, reliable, and inexpensive test. In our study we have found a correlation between the OSDI score and other clinical tests, except with LIPCOF test. At this moment, the questionnaire that could be the gold standard for dry eye disease diagnosis does not exist, therefore further studies concerning this topic are needed. © 2022, Serbia Medical Society. Publication Evaluation of body mass index and lipid fractions levels in patients with retinal artery occlusion; [Evaluacija indeksa telesne uhranjenosti i lipidnih frakcija kod bolesnika sa okluzijom retinalne arterije](2011) ;Risimić, Dijana (12773128400) ;Nikolić, Dejan (26023650800) ;Jakšic, Vesna (23667666000) ;Simeunović, Dejan (14630934500) ;Milenković, Svetislav (55499350000) ;Stefanović, Ivan (25628694100) ;Jaković, Nataša (55396741000) ;Milić, Nada (57196488815) ;Cekić, Sonja (36070315900)Babović, Siniša (57384231300)Background/Aim. There are studies stressing out that atherosclerosis is most common associated systemic condition in patients with retinal artery occlusion. The aim of this study was to analyze values of body mass index and lipid fractions in healthy individuals and patients with retinal artery occlusion. Methods. This study included 90 participants during a 6-year period. The population was divided into 2 groups: the group with the diagnosed retinal artery occlusion and the group without retinal artery occlusion. The observed parameters were as follows: body mass index, low and high density lipoproteins and triglycerides. Results. The study revealed no significant difference regarding body mass index and triglycerides values between the two evaluated groups, while low and high density lipoproteins values were significantly higher in the group of patients with retinal artery occlusion. Conclusions. The study demonstrated that body mass index and triglycerides have less important role in atherogenic pathogenesis of retinal artery occlusion, while low density lipoprotein is the fraction that is shown to be most potent in such etiological processes. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Macular Parameters Change during Silicon Oil Tamponade for Retinal Detachment Surgery(2023) ;Davidović, Sofija (20435452600) ;Živković, Maja (54958230800) ;Risimić, Dijana (12773128400) ;Rapajić, Maša (58116803100) ;Teodorović, Srđan (58117462000)Barišić, Sava (24767776800)Background and Objectives: To evaluate possible changes in macular thickness parameters during and after silicon oil tamponade and in pars plana rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery. Materials and Methods: Our retrospective study included 34 consecutive patients who underwent 23-gauge retinal detachment surgery with silicon oil tamponade. Central macular thickness (CMT), central macular volume cube (CMV) and average macular thickness cube (AVG) were measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) before rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery with silicon oil tamponade during tamponade (seven days, one month and three months after surgery), and one month after silicon oil removal. Results: In our sample, macular parameters CMT, CMV and AVG in patients who underwent retinal detachment surgery were statistically reduced during silicon oil tamponade (p < 0.05). After silicon oil removal, all parameters recovered, reaching numeric values which were not statistically significant compared to preoperative values. The average span of silicon oil tamponade was 162 +/− 23 days. Conclusions: Silicon oil tamponade during 23-gauge rhegmatogenous retinal detachment surgery leads to a transitory reduction of central macular thickness, central macular volume cube and average macular thickness cube in eyes that underwent retinal surgery. After silicon oil removal, macular parameters returned to preoperative values in most of the patients. © 2023 by the authors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Papilledema as a diagnostic challenge - Report of three cases(2012) ;Cekić, Sonja (36070315900) ;Risimić, Dijana (12773128400) ;Stanković-Babić, Gordana (27868127800) ;Babić, Rade (25023125300) ;Jakšić, Vesna (23667666000) ;Jovanović, Ivan (55892751600)Dordević-Jocić, Jasmina (36705590300)We present three different cases of patients with papilledema: one case with a primary tumour of the optic nerve, and two cases with secondary involvement of the optic nerve (breast carcinoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma). The visual acuity varies from sudden, painless, decrease of vision, to blurred vision and proptosis on the affected eye. A characteristic ophthalmoscopic examination shows a swollen optic disc and promonence with tortuosity of blood vessels. A fuorescein angiography shows dilated capillaries of the optic disc with leakage in the early phase and diffuse hyperfuorescence during the late phase. A ultrasonography B-scan of the affected eye shows prominent optic nerves with widened optic nerve sheath. An exhaustive history and complete ophthalmological examination are essential for the diagnosis, to which fuorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography, ocular coherent tomography, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance can be used as useful additional tests. Treatment and prognosis depend on the primary process. We emphasize the crucial role of ophthalmologist in the early diagnosis of CNS neoplasia. © Versita Sp. z o.o. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Publication Terson’s syndrome - A report of two cases(2015) ;Karadžić, Jelena (24767470400) ;Kovačević, Igor (6701643801) ;Stefanović, Ivan (25628694100)Risimić, Dijana (12773128400)Introduction Vitreous or retinal hemorrhage occurring in association with subarachnoid hemorrhage is known as Terson’s syndrome. In Terson’s syndrome, intracranial hemorrhages are followed by intraocular hemorrhage, classically in the subhyaloid space, but may also include subretinal, retinal, preretinal, and vitreal collections. Vitreous hemorrhage recovery is usually spontaneous in six to 12 months, otherwise vitrectomy is considered. Outline of Cases We report of two cases of Terson’s syndrome. The first was in a hypertensive middleaged female, following anterior communicating artery aneurismal subarachnoid hemorrhage, after postneurosurgical interventions. The second case report was of a young male who suffered from the bilateral vitreous hemorrhage after a severe traumatic brain injury. Conclusion Terson’s syndrome should be considered in patients who had previous cerebral hemorrhage and are referred to eye specialist because of loss of vision. However, this phenomenon has only rarely been described in association with subdural and epidural hematomas or traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage. © 2015 Serbia Medical Society. Publication The impact of COVID-19 pandemic and national lockdown on the surgical care of ophthalmic patients in a tertiary health care institution(2022) ;Vasilijević, Jelena (24767470400) ;Risimić, Dijana (12773128400) ;Božić, Marija (26640219200) ;Trenkić, Marija (58688727000) ;Manojlović, Sara (57874978800)Kovačević, Igor (6701643801)Introduction/Objective World Health Organization in January 2020 declared a pandemic of the coro-navirus disease named COVID-19. The state of emergency in the Republic of Serbia began on March 15 2020, which greatly influenced the treatment of those patients who were not affected by COVID-19. The aim of this paper is to compare the most common ophthalmic surgeries during quarantine with those performed in 2019 in the same period. Methods This is a retrospective study. We collected data from the operating protocol of the main ophthalmic operating room. We have followed the changes related to surgical procedures during these two years. Results During the state of emergency, significantly more operations were performed on male patients than on female patients compared to the same period in 2019 (p = 0.043). In the observed period, in 2019 significantly more patients older than 65 were surgically treated (p < 0.001). During 2019, there were 397 (64.3%) elective and 220 (35.7%) urgent procedures, while for the same period next year there were 9 (9.1%) elective and 90 (90.9%) urgent procedures. Significantly more urgent interventions were performed during 2020 compared to 2019 (p < 0.001). Conclusion The coronavirus pandemic has led to numerous changes in the treatment of ophthalmic patients. Many patients did not have access to adequate treatment, which certainly led to the impair-ment of many ophthalmic diseases. © 2022, Serbia Medical Society. All rights reserved.
