The bad state of diabetes, its duration and time of occurrence, age and sex are important factors for the development of vascular disease. Vascular disease was found most frequently in patients over 50 yr, whose diabetes had existed for more than 5 yr duration. Special attention must be paid to the prevention of vascular manifestations. The best way of postponing and prevention of the vascular disease during the diabetes is frequent and good control of the disease, body weight reduction, treatment of hypertension, physical activity and giving up of smoking.

In 2005 diabetics treated during 10 years, 95 cases of diabetic nephropathy were found. Of 95 observed patients 57 were females and 38 males in the age group of more than 50 years (83.1%). The duration of diabetes was 1-30 yrs, mostly 6-30 yr (82 patients). In 86.2% cases it was a maturity onset diabetes. Most of them were treated with insulin and diet (78.4%). Most patients (68.4%) were under bad control. Clinically in 36 patients edemas were found. In 75.8% the diastolic blood pressure was more than 95. Laboratory findings showed hypoproteinemia in 30 patients. Albuminuria till 3 g/l was found in 70, more than 3 g/l in 23, pathological findings in urine sediment in 89 patients. Azotaemia was found in 58 patients. Decreased creatinine clearance was found in 80 (84.2%) patients. Kidney biopsy was not done. It can be concluded, that in observed patients the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy is in close connection with inadequate treatment and long duration of diabetes. (Journal received: June 1976)

Thrombocyte aggregation in diabetic patients with hyperlipoproteinemia type IV
    (1979)

Thrombocyte aggregation was investigated in 15 diabetic patients with clinically pronounced vascular complications and with hyperlipoproteinemia type IV. By means of an aggregometer (type 'Mustard') the maximum amplitude of the decreased optical density and the degree of speed of the decreased optical density in a given unit of time were determined after adding 2 micrograms of ADP to the thrombocyte rich plasma. In comparison with 13 healthy subjects from the control group, a statistically significant higher maximum amplitude of the decreased optical density and a greater degree of the speed of the decreased optical density were noted among diabetics. Considering these facts, the authors suggest a possible influence of hyperlipoproteinemia upon the increased thrombocyte aggregation in diabetics with vascular complications.
